English Magic is the title of a book by Jeremy Tott, a biography of his brother, the theoretical magician Horace Tott[24]. It was Mr Norrell's choice of gift to make to Jonathan Strange at the end of the latter's first visit to London to meet him. Though politely expressing himself very grateful for the present, Strange immediately made it the subject of a magical experiment which resulted in its being transferred from this world into the dimension behind a mirror. There it may remain to this day, for Strange had not the least notion of how to retrieve it[24].
