A cousin of Mrs. Bullworth's, Elizabeth Church is one of those many persons against whom that lady plots revenge. Miss Church's offence is to become engaged to be married to a clergyman and after her marriage to live at York, there to enjoy all the society and diversions the city can offer.
She is described for us by Mrs. Bullworth as a "tedious, embroidering sort of girl"; but that may not be a wholly fair portrait of her character. Mrs. Bullworth does not support her misfortunes well, and often betrays great irritation of temper[36].
